As Louisville remembers the events of 9/11/2001 this weekend, one commemoration is especially dear to my heart. The Honoring the Animals Candlelight Vigil and Animal Blessing, sponsored by Chance’s Spot, Pet Loss, Support Resources, will pay homage to the rescue animals of 9/11, as it mourns with pet owners who have lost their pets.
Though few pets were lost during the 2001 attacks, about 400 dogs owned by civilian volunteers as well as police rescue dogs searched the remains of the Twin Towers at the Trade Center and at the Pentagon. The dogs helped...
